The Heart of Stage 3: Garrett PowerMax Turbo
At the centre of the package is the Garrett PowerMax direct-fit turbocharger, one of the most advanced upgrades available for the EA888 EVO4 engine. Designed to fit within the OEM footprint, the PowerMax offers significantly increased airflow and efficiency while maintaining factory-style fitment and response.
Compared to the stock turbo, the PowerMax provides 20% more compressor flow and 37% more turbine flow. Garrett’s latest compressor and turbine wheel technology allows the turbo to move far more air while operating efficiently at high boost levels. The turbine wheel and housing are constructed from high-temperature materials rated to 1050°C, ensuring durability under extreme conditions.
This turbo alone transforms the character of the MK8 GTI, delivering stronger mid-range punch, improved top-end power, and faster spool when paired with the right supporting hardware.
Supporting Hardware That Actually Supports Power
Big turbo power is meaningless without proper supporting components, and this is where many builds fall short. The Proven Performance Parts Stage 3 Package addresses every major bottleneck in the MK8 GTI system.
A large-bore 3.5-inch catless downpipe is included for vehicles without OPF, dramatically reducing exhaust backpressure directly at the turbine outlet. This allows the turbo to spool faster and operate more efficiently, while also delivering a raw, motorsport-inspired exhaust note.
Cooling is handled by a high-performance front-mount intercooler, originally designed for the Golf R platform. With nearly double the core volume of the factory GTI intercooler and substantially higher airflow, it keeps intake air temperatures stable even during extended hard driving or hot weather. This is critical for maintaining consistent power and protecting the engine under high boost.
To eliminate a known weak point, the package includes aerospace-grade titanium charge pipes. Factory plastic pipes are prone to cracking once boost is increased, whereas titanium provides superior strength, heat resistance, and unrestricted airflow. The result is improved throttle response, better boost stability, and long-term reliability.
Airflow into the system is further improved with a full carbon fibre intake system. By delivering cold, dense air directly to the turbo and minimising heat soak, the intake improves efficiency while adding a sharper, more aggressive induction sound under acceleration.
The package is completed with a full titanium valved cat-back exhaust system, offering significant weight savings and excellent exhaust flow. With remote-controlled valves, drivers can switch between refined, quiet cruising and an aggressive performance mode instantly, without excessive drone.
Performance Expectations and Tuning Transparency
With all hardware installed and paired with a high-quality custom Stage 3 tune, this package is capable of producing up to 520 horsepower and 576Nm of torque, depending on fuel choice, tuning strategy, and environmental conditions. Drivers can expect faster turbo spool, sharper throttle response, lower intake temperatures, and a dramatic increase in mid-range and top-end power.
It’s important to be clear: we do not provide tuning services. This package is a hardware solution only. Customers must organise their own professional tuner, and final performance results will depend heavily on the quality of that calibration.
A well-developed tune will unlock the full potential of this system. A poor-quality tune can significantly reduce performance, compromise reliability, and negatively affect drivability. For best results, we strongly recommend working with an experienced tuner familiar with EA888 EVO4 Stage 3 builds.
